- The microstamping technology uses powerful lasers to make microscopic engravings on the firing pin of a gun. Identifying markings are transferred from the firing pin to the shell casings when the gun is fired. Investigators can read the microscopic markings on the shell casings and link the evidence to the specific gun that fired the round.
- The bill has already passed in California and the District of Columbia and has been endorsed by the International Association of Chiefs of Police.
