The Nonviolent Life Is Here And Now

The Nonviolent Life is Here.

And now.
It is not in some other life
or some other world.
It is right here, in this world, in this time.
All around us.
The nonviolent life is
creative, challenging, insightful, modest, audacious.
It is large-hearted, cranky, courageous, wounded.
It is conscious and forgetful.
It is one step forward and seven steps back.
The nonviolent life is aware of its own stubborn violence
and aware of its untapped potential
for transcendent and unpredictable good.
It can't stop hoping for the well-being of all.
It can't stop taking steps for the well-being of all.
It is active, quiet, restrained and daring.
It is an ever-unfolding path of learning
and re-learning compassion and wisdom.
It is a never-ending way of starting over,
facing one's woundedness,
learning the harsh pangs
and luminous transcendence
of forgiving and being forgiven.

The nonviolent life wants it all:
justice and peace that is
personal, interpersonal, and social.
The nonviolent life is a life of
experiments, longings, conjectures, gambles.
It is the flow of infinity between the eyes.
It is struggle for human rights.
It is sorrow and joy.

The nonviolent life is Here.
Now.
